He married Hulda Wilsman in 1905. She preceded him in death in 1908. He married Mathilda Dahl in 1910. Mr. Stechmesser engaged in farming in Manitowoc County until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Verda) Mishicot; two brothers, Herbert and Kurt, of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Camille Schmidt, of California; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A daughter, Amanda Heater, four brothers and two sisters preceded in death. Friends may call Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 3 to 9 p.m.

Balzan was a member of St. Anne Parish and the American Legion. Surviors include a brother, Joseph, of Italy and a cousin, Dominic, of Rockwood. A sister preceded him in death. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m.

Mrs. Halada, nee Mary Blahnik, was born Feb. 11, 1902 at Casco, daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa Krubala Blahnik. She was married to Alex Andrastek at Alaska, Wis. He preceded her in death in 1925 She then married to Jacob Halada in 1932 at Casco.

(AP) The Mennonites are an old world sect whose legacy often is land. In Berks County, that legacy could be priced out of existence, a threat that has caused a handful of Mennonites near here to look to the West for their future. "The farmer is being pushed out." explains Titus R. Martin, a 38-year-old Mennonite minister who is taking his wife, four sons and two daughters to Missouri. "A lot of young people like to he says, "but it's too expensive for them in the East." Martin just sold his 86-acre dairy farm for $75,000, or $872 an acre.

He and another farmer are buying an 825-acre plot in Missouri-across the Mississippi River from Quincy, -for $140,000, or about $167 an acre. Bast was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Robert L. Pieper, 20, of 1227-A South 10th St. which collided with another car driven by Nancy L. man, 16, of St. Nazianz.
